Edmonton's Newest

Innovation Destination

See what we have planned

Innovate Edmonton has selected a home. Welcome to your online source for all things related to the city's newest innovation destination.

Located at 10107 Jasper Avenue, in the heart of Edmonton’s downtown, this vibrant new space will convene Edmonton’s diverse and growing innovation communities, contribute to the innovation identity of our city, and showcase Edmonton’s innovators as engines for tackling global challenges.

Representing the next step in Innovate Edmonton’s journey, the new space will be home to our operations and three program divisions — Startup Edmonton, Scaleup Edmonton, and Accelerate Edmonton. This new location represents a dedicated space for the startup community, innovators of all stripes, world-class accelerators generously funded by the City, and so much more!

Built with accessible and sustainable practices, the 18,000+ square foot, loft-style space with natural light and awe-inspiring windows will provide ample space for innovation to thrive with art installations and flexible spaces, including co-working collaboration spaces, 100-seat programming room, pitch space, and public podcast and production studio.

For many years, our city’s pioneers, startups, and entrepreneurs have continued to put this city on the innovation map, and the world is taking notice. Edmonton was recently named North America’s fastest-growing tech sector, a sector valued at nearly $500M, and a city where the average series A investment is $4.2M, compared to $2.7M globally. Our new space offers up a permanent and vibrant launchpad for this growth to continue.

Today we are poised as a global innovation capital, with Edmonton-made innovative solutions to global challenges, including climate emergency, public health, food security, digital inclusion, social justice, and Reconciliation. The world needs what Edmonton offers, and now is our time.

Edmonton is the place — located within Treaty 6 territory, where Indigenous innovation has taken place on these lands, Amiskwaciwâskahikan/ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ, since time immemorial. It’s home to passionate, vibrant, and diverse communities of innovators, including leaders in technology, sustainability, life sciences, agriculture, design, and social justice, to name a few. And Innovate Edmonton is here to support, convene and position these change-makers — and our capital city — for global success.

It starts in Edmonton. It starts here.

What's to come?

Our work is truly about you, and our new home will be more than just a spot on the map. We imagine it as a space with a unique collection of qualities and characteristics – visual, cultural, natural, and social – that provide this new destination with meaning and where ideas, collaboration, and partnerships intersect. We are also in good company with the city’s other innovation destinations, including post secondaries, Edmonton International Airport, Edmonton Research Park, and the Edmonton Public Library, to name a few.

Edmonton's innovation destination has tons of potential, in line with five key pillars: inclusivity, accessibility, sustainability, downtown vibrancy, and Reconciliation. We have secured naming rights for the building and look forward to working with the innovation community to design a space where ideas come to life.

Quick Facts

Here are a few things you should know about this next step in an incredible journey of growth and opportunity in Edmonton.

o1 /

Since launching operations in December 2020, Innovate Edmonton has not had a physical location, and staff has mainly been working from home. This innovation destination is the first home of Innovate Edmonton and will play a key role in downtown revitalization and urban placemaking.

02 /

With the launch of Innovate Edmonton, Startup Edmonton’s current lease expiring at the Mercer Building, the recent expansion of Scaleup Edmonton, and Accelerate Edmonton’s programs and fund, the timing was right to consider other spaces that would accommodate Edmonton’s diverse and growing innovation communities.

03 /

This unanimous Board decision resulted from a thorough five-month process. Innovate Edmonton engaged CBRE to issue a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) and received proposals from three available downtown buildings.

04 /

More than 200 stakeholders were invited to provide feedback and helped Innovate Edmonton to determine the type of space needed for sustainable and accessible innovation leadership. The Melcor-owned building was selected for its location, shared vision, and potential.

05 /

Occupancy is planned for fall 2022, and Innovate Edmonton’s team will continue mainly working from home as they have done since the organization’s inception in 2020. Startup Edmonton’s current lease at the Mercer is extended until October 2022 and will continue to offer co-working space to members and the startup community.

06 /

Innovate Edmonton has offered to work with the owners of the Mercer Building to support a smooth transition, including through referrals to prospective tenants and joint activations that lead to downtown vibrancy, entrepreneurship, and innovation placemaking.

07 /

Innovate Edmonton looks forward to engaging Edmontonians as final plans for the new space come together.
